Questions still worth confirming
YouSail treats missing information as not verified, never as a negative. Ask the marina:
- Is a berth available for my dates, length, beam, loaded draft and vessel type?
- What is the current maximum draft for the approach and proposed berth?
- What is the current overnight-stay or liveaboard policy?
- Are pets permitted, and are there access restrictions?
- Is pump-out available onsite or nearby?
- Is marina Wi-Fi available at the berth?
The answers below were supplied by the marina and lightly edited for presentation. They describe the operator's perspective and are not a TopMarinas ranking or independent inspection. Facilities, access and availability can change.
Navigation safety: never rely on an interview for navigation. Use current official charts and notices, and confirm arrival instructions directly with the marina.
In the operator's words
The full interview
1. Hope Harbour describes itself as the Gold Coast's hidden gem. What makes it feel that way?
It comes down to the atmosphere. Hope Harbour is tucked away on the eastern side of Hope Island, just around 2km from the Broadwater, but when you arrive at the marina it feels a world away from the busier parts of the Gold Coast.
It is a quiet, sheltered marina with a relaxed feel, surrounded by water and greenery. You can come back from a day on the boat, sit by the pool, have a meal or simply relax and watch the sunset. It has that feeling of being a little escape, while still being close to everything you need.
2. Who is Hope Harbour a good fit for, and how is it different from berthing at Runaway Bay?
Hope Harbour is a great fit for boat owners who value a quieter, more relaxed marina environment while still wanting easy access to the Broadwater and the wider Gold Coast waterways.
The two marinas have different personalities. Runaway Bay has a more active boating and marine-services environment, with a working shipyard, dry storage and a large range of marine businesses onsite. Hope Harbour is more focused on the lifestyle side of boating. It is a sheltered marina where owners can keep their boat in a peaceful environment and enjoy facilities such as the swimming pool, tennis court and resort amenities.
It really comes down to what type of marina experience suits you and how you like to use your boat.
3. How many berths do you have, what sizes can you take, and what secure storage options are there?
Hope Harbour has a large range of marina berths for both sail and power boats, including multihulls, with berths designed to accommodate vessels from around 6 metres through to 40 metres. The marina has purpose-built berths and fairways that provide additional room for larger vessels and multihulls.
Every berth has access to power and water, with three-phase power available at the larger berths. There is also secure onsite storage for boats and trailers, caravans, motorhomes and other vehicles. Storage customers can also make use of the private boat ramp and designated jetty for loading and unloading.
4. Talk us through arriving by water. The run in from the Broadwater, depths, tides, and who does a skipper call?
Hope Harbour is located just 2km from the open Broadwater, on the eastern side of Hope Island. The marina itself is in a sheltered basin off the Coomera River, which means it is protected from strong river and tidal flows.
For anyone visiting for the first time, we recommend planning the trip using your navigation devices and current marine charts, particularly around tides and the approach into the marina. If you are unsure about the approach or your berth, give the marina office a call before arriving and our team can assist with the arrival arrangements.
5. What facilities can berth holders use? Pool, tennis court, anything else worth mentioning.
One of the things that makes Hope Harbour different is that it offers more of a resort-style experience. Berth holders have access to the swimming pool and tennis court, as well as BBQ facilities, laundry, showers and toilets.
There is also convenient parking, courtesy trolleys for loading and unloading, a boat ramp and tender service. The marina has 24/7 CCTV monitoring, secure access to the marina and onshore facilities, and onsite security.
The Ramada Hotel Hope Harbour is also right next door, so owners can make use of the hotel restaurant and bar or enjoy some of the other facilities available at the resort.
6. What's nearby on Hope Island? Dining, provisioning and transport.
One of the great things about Hope Harbour is that you don't have to go far to find what you need. The marina is only a short drive from the M1 and is close to Hope Island's shopping, dining and everyday services. There are restaurants and cafés nearby, as well as supermarkets and other shops for provisioning. Paradise Point is also just a short trip away if you're looking for more dining options. For anyone travelling without a car, taxis and other transport options are available, and the marina is only around five minutes from the M1 by road.
7. Anything coming up at Hope Harbour over the next 12 months?
We are always looking at ways to improve the marina and make the experience better for our berth holders. Our focus is on maintaining the facilities, improving the marina where possible and continuing to provide a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for boat owners.
8. Anything we didn't ask that you'd want a boat owner to know?
Hope Harbour is about making boating feel like a lifestyle rather than a chore. You can keep your boat in a peaceful and secure environment, have access to resort-style facilities and be on the Broadwater within a short trip.
For us, it is about giving boat owners a place where they can slow down, enjoy their boat and make the most of being on the water. It is close enough to everything you need, but tucked away enough to feel like your own little escape.
