Questions still worth confirming

YouSail treats missing information as not verified, never as a negative. Ask the marina:

  • Is a berth available for my dates, length, beam, loaded draft and vessel type?
  • What is the current maximum draft for the approach and proposed berth?
  • What is the current overnight-stay or liveaboard policy?
  • Are pets permitted, and are there access restrictions?
  • Is pump-out available onsite or nearby?
  • Is marina Wi-Fi available at the berth?

With Hugo Littlejohn, Mantaray Marina

1. Mantaray opened on 1 August 2026. What was the vision behind it, and what did you want to bring to the Gold Coast?

For some time, the Gold Coast has been recognised as Australia's leading refit and maintenance hub and gateway to the iconic cruising grounds of the East Coast. What has been lacking, until now, is the berthing infrastructure to complement that location strength. The Mantaray’s vision was to deliver a marina that caters not only to the operational needs of vessels from 10 to 60 metres, but also to the lifestyle of their owners, families and crews. The Mantaray offers an unparalleled waterfront experience where pristine beaches and coastal habitats meet world-class service, fine dining, and vibrant retail precincts.

2. You've kept it to 67 berths for vessels from 10 to 60 metres. What was the thinking behind that mix?

We deliberately prioritised quality over quantity. Rather than maximising berth numbers within the permitted seabed lease, we focused on creating a well-balanced mix of sizes that reflects the modern boating market while ensuring comfortable manoeuvring, privacy and access.

The berth profile accommodates everything from owner-operated cruisers through to large motor yachts and superyachts. Importantly, it also provides flexibility for owners to move up in vessel size without needing to leave the marina.

Longer term berthing starts from 18m with a limited number of 10 and 12m berths available for day cruisers visiting the hospitality and retail venues. There are 18 berths sized 40m and above – targeting both local vessels as the Gold Coast becomes a preferred charter destination, as well as visiting international vessels such as Iron Blonde, the 60m Trinity Yacht currently berthed at The Mantaray.

3. Who is Mantaray built for? Paint us a picture of the owner who feels at home here.

Our typical owner values convenience, quality and time on the water. They may be a local Gold Coast resident, a Brisbane-based boater looking for easier ocean access, or an interstate owner seeking a home port in one of Australia's premier cruising regions.

What they tend to have in common is an appreciation for professional service, secure facilities and the social side of boating. They're looking for more than a parking space for their vessel. They're looking for a marina community that complements their lifestyle.

4. Talk us through arriving by water for the first time. The approach, depths, tides, where does a skipper head and who do they call?

The approach to Mantaray is straightforward and well suited to larger vessels. The marina is accessed via the Gold Coast Broadwater and benefits from deep-water access with no air-draft restrictions.

First-time arrivals are encouraged to contact the marina team prior to arrival. Our staff can provide berth allocation details, approach guidance and assistance with mooring procedures. Upon arrival, vessels are met by the marina team where required, ensuring a smooth transition from passage to berth.

5. What does a berth include? Power, water, waste, wifi, parking, anything else worth mentioning.

Power and potable water connections

Marina-wide Wi-Fi

Secure gated access

CCTV surveillance

Vehicle parking

Modern amenities

In-berth pump-out and waste management services

Concierge assistance and marina support

Access to Mantaray Club and Captains Lounge facilities

6. What's up and running on site today, and what have you got in the works?

The marina, berthing facilities, marina office, concierge services, secure basement car parking and member amenities are fully operational.

Over the coming months, owners will see a continued rollout of lifestyle, hospitality and member-focused initiatives that further enhance the experience both on and off the water. Mantaray has been designed as a long-term destination, and we're committed to continually elevating the offering.

7. The Mantaray Club. What does a berth holder enjoy that a visiting boat doesn't?

The Mantaray Club is designed to reward long-term members and berth holders with benefits that go beyond marina infrastructure.

These include priority access to marina events, networking opportunities, exclusive member experiences, preferred partner offers and a stronger connection to the Mantaray community. While visiting vessels enjoy full marina services, berth holders become part of an ongoing lifestyle and ownership network.

8. How does availability work across daily, seasonal and 12 month berthing? Is there a waitlist, and for which sizes?

We offer flexible berthing options ranging from short-stay visitor berthing through to long-term annual agreements.

Availability varies by vessel length and time of year. Some berth categories experience stronger demand than others, particularly larger berths and premium locations. We encourage owners planning long-term berthing to contact the marina team early, as waitlists may apply for certain sizes. At the time of typing, we have a limited number of 18m berths remaining and waitlists on all other berths up to 40m.

Our objective is to maintain flexibility while ensuring berth holders receive priority access and continuity.

9. You offer superyacht agency and vessel management. What does that look like in practice, and can smaller boats tap into any of it?

Our marine services extend beyond berthing. Through our strong network of superyacht agency and vessel management capabilities, we can assist owners, captains and crew with a broad range of operational requirements.

This may include logistical support, provisioning, contractor coordination, customs and clearance assistance, maintenance scheduling, fuel arrangements and owner liaison services.

While these services are particularly valuable for larger yachts, many elements can also be tailored to smaller vessels and owner-operated boats seeking professional support.

10. Security and after hours access. What does that look like day to day?

Security is a core priority at Mantaray. The marina operates controlled access systems, monitored entry points and after-hours security measures designed to protect both vessels and owners. Berth holders and authorised guests can access the marina outside business hours using secure access credentials, while marina staff remain available to assist where required.

11. What's walking distance? Dining, provisioning, transport, and how far to Coolangatta and Brisbane airports.

One of Mantaray's greatest strengths is its location. Outside of the on-site hospitality venues, within easy reach are restaurants, cafés, retail services, marine suppliers and everyday conveniences. The marina also provides excellent access to road transport networks throughout the Gold Coast and South East Queensland.

For visiting owners and crew, Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta is approximately 30 minutes away by car, while Brisbane Airport is roughly one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes depending on traffic conditions.

12. If someone berths at Mantaray, where are they cruising to? Give us your three favourite runs from the dock.

South Stradbroke Island

A short run offering beautiful beaches, calm anchorages and waterfront dining options.

Moreton Bay and Tangalooma

Ideal for weekend escapes, with crystal-clear waters, protected cruising and excellent fishing.

Wave Break Island

For those not wanting to leave the protection of the Seaway, this island sits right inside the entrance. Its pristine sandy beaches and crystal-clear water make it the most popular day-anchorage on the Gold Coast for swimming, jet skiing, and picnics.

13. What's something about berthing on the Gold Coast that surprises people when they first come through?

Many visiting owners are surprised by how accessible and practical the Gold Coast is as a boating base.

People often know the region for its beaches and tourism, but they're less aware of the extensive waterways, strong marine service industry, skilled trades network and year-round boating conditions. It is genuinely one of the most convenient locations in Australia to own and operate a vessel.

14. Anything on the horizon for the next 12 months you'd like sailors to know about?

The focus for the next 12 months is on growing the Mantaray community and expanding the services available to owners, captains and guests.

We'll continue developing partnerships, lifestyle programming, cruising events and member benefits that make Mantaray not just a marina, but a true waterfront destination.

15. Anything we didn't ask that you'd want a boat owner to know?

Just dispelling some common misconceptions. The land side development is not a hotel, it contains 24 private residences. You do not have to be a resident to berth at The Mantaray. The berths are not for sale – they are available on a 1-day through to 12-month lease.
