About Augusta Boat Harbour

Augusta Boat Harbour is a modern working and recreational harbour on Flinders Bay, built to support fishing, tourism, charter operations and local boating on Western Australia’s south-west coast. Opened in 2014, it combines robust marine infrastructure with an unusually scenic public waterfront. For berth holders and visiting crews, the main strength is balance: secure pens and a capable service jetty on one side, then grassed areas, walking paths, barbecues and wide views across the bay on the other.

The harbour provides 40 pens ranging from 10 to 20 metres, with power, water, lighting and CCTV. A 50-metre service jetty offers single- and three-phase power, water and working-vessel capacity, while the four-lane ramp and floating jetties support busy recreational launching. Purpose-built universal access facilities—including a pontoon, parking, toilets, showers and tactile paths—make this one of the more thoughtfully accessible regional boating facilities in the state.

Augusta’s location gives the harbour real destination value. Flinders Bay is known for fishing, whale watching and the dramatic meeting point of the Southern and Indian Ocean coasts. Whale migration season, community events and the annual Blessing of the Fleet give the harbour a life beyond vessel storage. Owners can enjoy a picnic or buy seafood from a working boat, while cruising crews gain a strategic South West waypoint with essential services ashore.

We think Augusta Boat Harbour is at its best for regional capability, accessible infrastructure and fishing or eco-tourism access. This remains serious coastal water: swell, fronts and wind changes around Cape Leeuwin require disciplined planning. Pens are offered across casual, short-term and annual arrangements but demand can be strong. Confirm availability and service-jetty use with Transport WA, check current notices and treat the harbour as a secure preparation point rather than a guarantee of benign conditions outside. For well-prepared crews, Augusta offers an excellent mix of function, scenery and South West character.

The public-realm design sets Augusta apart from many purely operational harbours. Family or friends can enjoy the foreshore while a crew prepares the boat, and the accessible infrastructure gives more people a realistic path onto the water. At the same time, the pens, service jetty and ramp retain a strong working purpose. We love that balance: it is a harbour that supports commercial activity, serious fishing and regional cruising without closing itself off from the broader community or the landscape that makes Flinders Bay special.

Services

Augusta Boat Harbour provides 40 floating pens from 10 to 20 metres with single- and three-phase power, water, CCTV, lighting, toilets and showers. A 50-metre service jetty supplies power, water, lighting and fire equipment and is engineered for working-vessel use subject to published limits.

The four-lane ramp has floating jetties and trailer parking, although no washdown facility is provided. Universal-access infrastructure includes a dedicated pontoon, parking, toilets, showers and tactile paths. Bicycle racks, barbecues, grassed areas, a shaded pavilion and harbour trails support time ashore. Accommodation is offered on casual, short-term and annual terms where available. Contact Transport WA to confirm pen dimensions, fees, metered utilities, berth availability and any service-jetty booking requirements. Fuel, heavy lifting and full boatyard services are not listed as harbour-provided facilities and should be arranged separately.

Ask whether a berth licence includes parking or access credentials, how water and electricity are metered, and which waste streams the harbour accepts. Service-jetty users should confirm time limits, loading permissions and electrical connections. Trailer-boat crews should arrive with washdown alternatives and avoid cleaning gear in areas not designated for that purpose.

Ideal for

South West fishing boats, charter operators, trailer boats, regional owners and cruising vessels seeking secure pens and a capable harbour near Cape Leeuwin. The accessible facilities are especially valuable for crews or families with mobility considerations.

What we love

  • Modern 10-to-20-metre pens with strong utility provision.
  • A four-lane ramp and substantial service jetty for varied boating needs.
  • Thoughtful universal-access pontoons, paths, parking and amenities.
  • Beautiful Flinders Bay views and whale-watching appeal.
  • A working harbour that also welcomes community events and relaxed shore time.

To keep in mind

Berth demand may be high, so arrange space before arrival. There is no ramp washdown facility and fuel or heavy maintenance must be confirmed elsewhere. Conditions outside Flinders Bay can be demanding; check forecasts, swell and notices around Cape Leeuwin carefully.
