About Batavia Coast Marina
Batavia Coast Marina is Geraldton’s principal city-side marina and a natural preparation point for the Houtman Abrolhos Islands. Located close to the centre of Geraldton, it combines practical Western Australian boating infrastructure with walkable access to accommodation, dining, shopping, the Museum of Geraldton and the city waterfront. That mix makes it valuable to local owners, seasonal charter vessels and visiting crews moving along the Mid West coast.
The current Transport WA profile lists 84 pens in sizes from 10 to 22 metres, including two 18-metre catamaran pens. Power, water, lighting, CCTV, showers and laundry support berth holders, while three-phase power is available at the jetty end. A service jetty, three-lane boat ramp, sealed trailer parking and universal-access facilities help the marina serve both berthed and trailerable boats.
The Abrolhos connection is the defining destination strength. Geraldton is the mainland gateway for fishing, diving, wildlife and island cruising across this extraordinary archipelago. Crews can provision in a regional city, prepare systems at the marina and wait for an appropriate weather window before heading offshore. Twenty-four-hour diesel is available nearby at Fishermen’s Wharf rather than inside the marina itself, an important distinction when planning departure.
We think Batavia Coast Marina is at its best for offshore access, city convenience and useful regional infrastructure. It is a working public facility rather than a resort marina, and pen demand currently includes waitlists for casual and annual accommodation. Strong winds and exposed Indian Ocean conditions shape Mid West boating, so secure planning matters as much as marina facilities. Owners who arrange a pen, confirm nearby fuel and respect the forecast gain a capable base with a compelling destination offshore and Geraldton’s everyday services immediately ashore.
Geraldton also gives the marina a useful dual personality. It can serve local owners year-round, yet for coastal crews it becomes a strategic rest and preparation point before deciding whether to continue north, south or towards the Abrolhos. Shops, accommodation and transport links make crew changes and provisioning more practical than at isolated anchorages. Our take is simple: Batavia Coast scores strongly for regional importance, utility and island access, while its best users remain crews prepared for the exposed conditions beyond the harbour walls.
Services
The marina provides 84 pens ranging from 10 to 22 metres, including catamaran accommodation. Berth-holder services include single-phase power, water, lighting, CCTV, toilets, showers and laundry, with three-phase power at the jetty end. A service jetty supplies power, water, lighting and low-level universal-access pontoon access.
A three-lane ramp, sealed car-and-trailer parking, boardwalk and universal-access fishing platform serve the wider boating community. Diesel is available 24/7 at the nearby Fishermen’s Wharf, not at the marina pontoons, so crews should plan the separate fuel stop. Transport WA offers casual, short-term and annual accommodation when available, but current waitlists are published. Confirm pen availability, vessel dimensions, utility charges, service-jetty conditions and current notices before arrival. Heavy haul-out and specialist repair capability should be arranged separately.
Ask the harbour office about access credentials, utility metering, bathroom hours, parking and arrangements for deliveries or contractors. Service-jetty use may have separate operational conditions from ordinary pens. Confirm the location and hours of independent fuel, gas, ice, chandlery and repair providers before a time-sensitive departure, especially around weekends or public holidays.
Ideal for
Abrolhos-bound cruising yachts, serious fishing boats, seasonal charter vessels, Geraldton owners and coastal passagemakers who need a city-side preparation base with secure pens and practical amenities.
What we love
- Geraldton’s strongest mainland position for Abrolhos Islands itineraries.
- A useful range of 10-to-22-metre pens, including catamaran spaces.
- Power, water, CCTV, showers and laundry for berth holders.
- Easy walking connection to the museum, accommodation and city waterfront.
- A three-lane ramp and accessible public boating infrastructure.
To keep in mind
Casual and annual pens may be waitlisted, so never arrive assuming space. Diesel is nearby at Fishermen’s Wharf rather than on the marina arms. Geraldton is exposed to strong winds and Indian Ocean swell; choose Abrolhos and coastal passage windows conservatively.
