About Cairns Marlin Marina
Cairns Marlin Marina occupies one of Australia’s most compelling marina locations: directly beside Cairns city, at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Operated by Ports North, it serves cruising yachts, reef-tour vessels, game-fishing boats and some of the world’s largest private yachts. We think its defining advantage is scale without isolation—serious marina infrastructure sits within an easy walk of hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, the Esplanade and city nightlife.
The floating marina has 261 berths and accommodates vessels up to 140 metres, with dedicated superyacht capability and specialist support close by. Standard berths receive a single-phase electrical connection up to 15 amps within the berth fee, while selected positions can provide three-phase power up to 200 amps by request. Fresh potable water reaches every berth, and access-controlled amenities include showers, toilets and laundry. Security patrols and CCTV operate throughout the facility.
Operational support is equally strong. Refuelling can be arranged seven days a week, pump-out options are available through the marina office, and waste facilities include a compactor and oil-disposal bins. Permit parking, designated dinghy berths and fire services add useful structure. The Cairns marine and superyacht refit precinct is only minutes away, while local agents, contractors, provisioning businesses and airport connections make complex crew or vessel logistics easier than at a remote tropical marina.
The cruising possibilities are the reason to come. Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the outer reef are natural early destinations, with Lizard Island and the Ribbon Reefs extending the adventure north. Trinity Inlet and the commercial shipping channel require disciplined navigation, but they also provide the defined approach expected of a major port. What stands out to us is the extraordinary contrast between a city-centre berth and reef cruising on the doorstep.
Our take is that Cairns Marlin Marina is a top-tier base for ambitious tropical boating. It works for a short reef stopover, a seasonal cruising programme, game-fishing operations or a major superyacht visit. Demand and tropical-weather procedures require planning, so book early and understand the port rules. Once secured, the marina offers a rare combination of capability, walkability and access to one of the world’s great cruising regions.
Services
Cairns Marlin Marina provides 261 floating berths for a mixed fleet, including superyachts up to 140 metres. Each berth includes one single-phase electrical connection up to 15 amps, with higher-capacity single- and three-phase power charged or arranged at selected positions. Fresh potable water is available throughout. Full vessel dimensions, power load, insurance and arrival timing should accompany every booking request.
Refuelling is available by appointment seven days a week, including bunkering solutions for larger vessels. Pump-out methods are coordinated through the marina office, as black-water discharge in the marine environment is prohibited. Access-controlled amenities include toilets, showers and laundry. Waste compaction and oil-disposal facilities, permit parking, designated dinghy berths, fire equipment, CCTV and regular day-and-night security patrols support longer stays.
Cairns has an established marine and superyacht service precinct roughly five minutes from the marina, along with agents, provisioning and technical contractors. The airport is about ten minutes away and city services are walkable. International, commercial and large-vessel arrivals should confirm all port, security, clearance and pilotage requirements well ahead. Every crew should review the current cyclone plan, berth evacuation obligations, channel information and after-hours contacts before the tropical season.
Ideal for
Reef-bound cruising yachts, game-fishing and tourism vessels, international crews and superyachts needing city logistics beside a major tropical cruising ground. It also suits owners arranging crew changes, provisioning or refit work in Cairns.
What we love
- Two hundred and sixty-one berths with capacity up to 140 metres.
- The Great Barrier Reef directly beyond the city waterfront.
- Walkable hotels, dining, shopping and Cairns Esplanade attractions.
- High-capacity power, bunkering and superyacht support options.
- Airport and marine-refit precinct both only minutes away.
To keep in mind
Reserve well ahead during the dry season and major fishing periods. Trinity Inlet is an active commercial port, so follow current channel, security and arrival requirements. Tropical crews must understand cyclone procedures, evacuation responsibilities and the limits of their assigned berth.
