About Gladstone Marina
Gladstone Marina is a substantial Gladstone Ports Corporation facility on the sheltered waters of Port Curtis, positioned as a practical gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. With space for around 320 vessels, it has the scale and service range to support local owners, coastal cruisers, charter boats and working craft. We think its standout quality is the balance between serious harbour capability and a surprisingly welcoming shore environment of lawns, paths and waterfront parklands.
Accommodation includes floating wet berths, fixed-wharf and pontoon moorings, pile and swing moorings, and floating dry berths. The marina has welcomed vessels across a broad size range, but each booking still depends on dimensions, draft, utilities and current allocation. Berth power options extend to high-capacity three-phase connections, with drinking water available. Electronic access, CCTV and security patrols provide reassurance for owners leaving a boat in a busy regional port.
Cruising support is impressively complete. Toilets, showers, laundry and an air-conditioned marina lounge help crews reset after a passage. There is a sullage pump-out, oil and battery disposal, rubbish and recycling, a davit crane, fish-cleaning facilities, and access to fuel, ice and gas refills. A courtesy bus and the surrounding marina precinct make provisioning and local errands more manageable. What stands out to us is how many practical passage needs can be handled without losing a day to logistics.
The location opens up Curtis and Facing islands, the Capricorn and Bunker groups, sheltered harbour anchorages and the tidal route through The Narrows. Those options demand different levels of experience. Gladstone is a major commercial port, outgoing tides can be powerful, and The Narrows dries in places. Vessels should monitor harbour traffic, use current charts and notices, know their draft and contact the marina for local guidance before attempting unfamiliar routes.
Our take is that Gladstone Marina is one of Queensland's strongest all-round cruising bases: large enough to provide meaningful infrastructure, yet connected to tropical islands and reef country almost immediately beyond the harbour. Book ahead, advise arrival on the published VHF channel and confirm the correct approach for conditions. With careful tidal planning and a well-matched berth, crews can rest, service the boat and set out again with confidence.
Services
Gladstone Marina accommodates around 320 vessels across wet berths, fixed-wharf and pontoon spaces, pile and swing moorings, and floating dry berths. It serves short- and long-term private boats, charter operators and service vessels. Berth electricity includes multiple capacities up to three-phase supply, and drinking water is available. Electronic security, CCTV and patrols support controlled access throughout the marina.
Crew amenities include toilets, showers, a secure laundry and an air-conditioned lounge with kitchenette and workspace. Practical marine facilities include a sullage pump-out, general rubbish and recycling, oil and filter disposal, battery disposal, fish-cleaning facilities and a davit crane by arrangement. Fuel, ice and gas refills are available through marina precinct providers, while a courtesy bus assists with local transport.
Contact the office before arrival to confirm berth type, length, beam, draft, power and any crane or waste-service requirement. The marina publishes VHF channel 82, while Gladstone Harbour vessel traffic services use channel 13. Commercial shipping and strong tidal flows require attention. For northbound travel through The Narrows, obtain current local guidance and calculate tide height against vessel draft; the route dries at low water and is not suitable for casual timing assumptions.
Ideal for
Coastal cruisers, reef-bound yachts, charter boats and working vessels needing a secure, highly serviced Central Queensland harbour base.
What we love
- A strategic Southern Great Barrier Reef gateway
- Around 320 varied vessel-accommodation spaces
- Strong crew, waste and utility facilities
- Beautiful parklands beside a working port
- Local guidance for harbour and tidal routes
To keep in mind
Gladstone is an active commercial harbour, and nearby routes have strong tidal considerations. Confirm the berth and approach, monitor VHF and notices, and seek marina advice before using The Narrows. Booking ahead also ensures the right power connection and any pump-out, crane or transport support is ready.
