About Groper Creek Boat Harbour

Groper Creek Boat Harbour is a public creek-side launching area in the Burdekin district, around 17 kilometres from Home Hill. The small community, holiday huts and mangrove-lined water give it the atmosphere of a much more remote fishing settlement. This is not a serviced commercial marina with bookable berths. We think it is best appreciated as a practical, locally supported base where anglers can launch, use the jetty and settle into the slower rhythm of a North Queensland creek.

Burdekin Shire Council lists a two-lane concrete ramp, jetty and toilet facility at Groper Creek Road, with additional amenities developed by the local fishing club. The broader village also has a second launching option and a children's play area. These facilities support day trips and local fishing, but the jetty should be treated as shared short-term infrastructure rather than guaranteed overnight vessel accommodation. Prepare boats away from active lanes and keep loading time efficient.

The adjacent private caravan park is the most useful shore-side companion for visitors, allowing crews to stay close to the ramp and water. Its bookings and conditions are separate from the public harbour area and should be confirmed directly. What stands out to us is the simplicity of the experience: an early launch, a day following tides and fishing water, then a short return to the village rather than a long drive back to town.

Self-sufficiency matters. We have not verified permanent marina pens, shore power, potable berth water, fuel, pump-out, chandlery or repair services at the harbour. Bring fuel, drinking water, ice, communications, first aid and appropriate vessel spares from Home Hill or another service centre. Check tide and weather information, and seek local advice about creek depth, bars, banks and the safest window for the intended route. Crocodile-safe behaviour is essential around all northern waterways.

Our take is that Groper Creek is ideal for capable trailer-boat anglers and visitors who value community character over marina polish. The public ramp itself is not a camping area, so arrange a lawful stay at the caravan park or another approved location. Respect local residents, keep noise and waste under control, and allow for changing water levels. With realistic expectations and good preparation, Groper Creek offers direct access to a distinctive Burdekin fishing environment.

Services

The public facility at Groper Creek Road includes a two-lane concrete boat ramp, a jetty and toilets. It adjoins the Groper Creek community, where the local fishing club has developed additional amenities. The broader creek-side destination also includes another launching point and a playground. Ramp and jetty space is shared, so rig vessels before entering the lanes and move away promptly after loading or retrieval.

A privately operated caravan park provides nearby visitor accommodation, but it is separate from the Council boat-ramp facility. Contact the park directly for site availability, parking, check-in and any boat-related conditions. Camping at the public ramp or landing is prohibited under local rules, so an empty patch beside the launch should not be treated as an overnight site.

There are no verified commercial marina berths, shore utilities, fuel dock, pump-out, chandlery or repair yard at this listing. Arrive fully provisioned and carry suitable remote-area safety and communication equipment. Review tides, weather and local navigation knowledge before launching, and keep clear of the water's edge except when necessary because crocodiles may be present. Report ramp hazards or damage to Burdekin Shire Council.

Ideal for

Self-sufficient trailer-boat anglers and Burdekin visitors seeking public creek access, a jetty and nearby caravan-park accommodation.

What we love

  • A genuine North Queensland fishing community
  • Two-lane concrete public boat ramp
  • A useful jetty for short operations
  • Caravan accommodation close to the water
  • Quiet creek-side character near Home Hill

To keep in mind

This is a public launch facility, not a serviced marina, and camping at the ramp is prohibited. Bring fuel, water, safety gear and spares, book the private caravan park separately, and plan around tides and local creek conditions. Always follow crocodile-safety guidance near the water.
