About Mackay Marina

Mackay Marina Village is one of Queensland's most complete marine destinations, positioned as the southern gateway to the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef. Its large protected basin brings together cruising yachts, multihulls, commercial fishing boats and superyachts, with accommodation, dining and marine businesses ashore. We think it succeeds because it works equally well as a passage stop, a maintenance base and a place where crews can pause comfortably before heading north or offshore.

The marina contains 435 berths, including 102 purpose-built multihull spaces and dedicated commercial berths. Six superyacht berths can take vessels up to 55 metres with published draft capacity of 4.5 metres and power up to 150 amps, while a further 12 cater to large monohulls and multihulls. The main basin is designed around a 3.5-metre draft at lowest astronomical tide, but allocation always depends on vessel dimensions and the marina's current assessment.

Fuel is a major strength. Premium diesel and unleaded are available from an alongside dock with a credit-card terminal operating around the clock, and the upgraded high-flow system can deliver 350 to 400 litres per minute. Potable water is available at every berth and the fuel dock. Shore-power options include standard single phase and three phase by request, while secure parking, 24-hour amenity access, laundry, recycling and a marina-office chandlery support longer stays.

The wider village adds hotel accommodation, restaurants, catering, retail and a full-service shipyard, and the marina promotes superyacht and international-clearance capability. What stands out to us is the operational depth: a crew can refuel, provision, arrange technical work and recover ashore in the same precinct. Customs, biosecurity, haul-out and shipyard work all require advance coordination, however, and no vessel should assume clearance or lifting capacity without a confirmed booking.

Our take is that Mackay Marina is especially strong for northbound cruisers, multihull owners, commercial operators and superyachts needing serious infrastructure. Leisure crews also benefit from the secure, sociable village atmosphere and easy provisioning support. Send full dimensions, draft, power and fuel needs before arrival, ensure shore leads meet the marina's tagging rules and reserve yard services early. With those details handled, Mackay is a capable and welcoming launch point for tropical Queensland cruising.

Services

Mackay Marina has 435 berths, including 102 multihull berths, commercial spaces and extensive superyacht capacity. Six berths accept vessels up to 55 metres with 4.5-metre draft and power up to 150 amps; additional large-vessel berths are available. The main basin is designed for 3.5-metre draft at lowest astronomical tide. Confirm LOA, beam, draft, displacement and power before allocation.

Premium diesel and unleaded are dispensed at an alongside fuel dock with 24-hour credit-card access. High-flow delivery reaches a published 350 to 400 litres per minute, with bulk rates available. Potable water is supplied at every berth and the fuel dock. Standard shore power is available, with three-phase supply by request and usage charges; leads must be compliant, waterproof, tested and tagged.

Secure gate access, CCTV, private parking, hot showers, bathrooms, card-operated laundry, recycling, trolleys, a Wi-Fi lounge, chandlery and gas service support visiting crews. The precinct also has dining, accommodation, transport help and a full-service shipyard. International clearance and superyacht services require direct coordination with the marina and relevant authorities. Reserve shipyard work, large fuel lifts and specialist support ahead, and ask about pump-out and waste procedures for the assigned berth.

Ideal for

Whitsunday-bound cruisers, multihulls, commercial boats and superyachts seeking deep berthing, round-the-clock fuel, strong amenities and shipyard support.

What we love

  • A large basin with 435 berths
  • Excellent multihull and superyacht capacity
  • Twenty-four-hour high-flow fuel access
  • Potable water at every berth
  • A complete village and shipyard precinct

To keep in mind

Large-vessel space, three-phase power, international clearance and shipyard work all need advance coordination. Provide full vessel specifications and use compliant tested shore leads. Basin design depths do not replace current arrival guidance, so confirm the allocated route, berth and conditions before entering.
