About Oyster Cove Marina

Oyster Cove Marina sits at Kettering in Little Oyster Cove, on the doorstep of Tasmania's D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The fishing-village setting, sheltered harbour and access to Bruny Island waters have made Kettering a natural boating hub south of Hobart. We think Oyster Cove stands out because it combines the scale of a major home-port marina with the practical depth of a real boatyard, allowing owners to berth, refuel, maintain and prepare a vessel in one place.

The marina has 300 floating pontoon pens, all supplied with electricity and water, for boats from about 8 to 20 metres. Visitor berthing is available, but the operator describes it as first-in rather than reservable, so crews should call before arrival and carry an alternative. Confirm length, beam, draft, electrical connection, insurance and current rates. Within the fairway, observe the published four-knot limit and follow staff instructions around the fuel and Travelift areas.

Modern bathrooms and laundry, diesel and unleaded fuel, a well-stocked chandlery and on-site marine businesses support both routine ownership and passage preparation. The 45-tonne Marine Travelift handles vessels up to 20 metres long and 6.1 metres in beam, while a two-tonne crane supports mast work. What stands out to us is the completeness of the service ecosystem: sails, brokerage, marine equipment and maintenance expertise are all available within or close to the marina.

The boatyard has room for about 20 vessels, two large spray sheds, a maintenance shed, keel pit, pressure washer and supported hardstand. Owners may undertake approved work and can live aboard while in the yard if required, subject to boatyard terms. The lift basin is published at 2.2 metres at low water, with vessels drawing up to 3.1 metres potentially lifted at high tide. Every haul-out therefore requires a booked, tide-aware plan rather than an assumption.

Our take is that Oyster Cove is ideal for Channel cruisers, southern Tasmanian owners and visiting yachts needing a capable service stop. Visitor space cannot be guaranteed and current charges should come from the office, not an old rate sheet. Contact staff before entering, confirm fuel hours and lift requirements and keep clear of ferry and marina traffic. With those arrangements in place, this is one of the most useful all-round boating bases in the D'Entrecasteaux region.

Services

Oyster Cove Marina provides 300 floating berths for vessels from approximately 8 to 20 metres, with electricity and water at every pen. Visitor berthing is available on a first-in basis rather than by advance reservation. Call before arrival, confirm current rates and vessel fit, and keep an alternative ready. Follow the four-knot fairway limit and marina directions.

The marina offers modern bathrooms and laundry, diesel and unleaded fuel, chandlery, sailmaking and boat-sales services. Fuel hours and payment arrangements should be checked directly. No sewage pump-out is recorded, so plan blackwater disposal elsewhere. Permanent and visiting crews should confirm security access, electrical requirements and any pet or contractor conditions attached to their stay.

A 45-tonne Travelift handles vessels up to 20 metres long and 6.1 metres beam. The yard includes capacity for around 20 boats, spray and maintenance sheds, a keel pit, pressure washer and owner-maintenance options. A two-tonne crane supports mast lifts. The basin has 2.2 metres at low water, with deeper-draft lifts timed for high tide. Book all work and read the boatyard terms before arrival.

Ideal for

D'Entrecasteaux Channel cruisers and southern Tasmanian owners wanting serviced berths, fuel, chandlery and a capable full boatyard in one location.

What we love

  • Three hundred powered floating berths
  • A capable 45-tonne Marine Travelift
  • Diesel and unleaded fuel on site
  • Modern bathrooms, laundry and chandlery
  • Extensive maintenance and owner-work facilities

To keep in mind

Visitor berths are first-in and cannot be reserved, so call and retain an alternative. The fairway limit is four knots. Travelift bookings depend on vessel dimensions, basin depth and tide, while sewage pump-out is not recorded as available.
