About Phoebe Street Marina
Phoebe Street Marina is a character-filled working marina tucked between Sommerville Point and White Horse Point on Balmain's sheltered waterfront. Its traditional timber-piled wharf, slipway and boatshed preserve a piece of Sydney Harbour's maritime fabric while an active shipwright team keeps the facility thoroughly useful. We think the combination is special: this feels like a place where boats are understood, maintained and enjoyed, not simply parked beside an anonymous jetty.
The marina provides 20 wet berths for vessels up to 12 metres long and 4.5 metres in beam. A further 21 swing moorings can accommodate boats up to 20 metres, including positions in front of the marina and west of Sommerville Point. The north-west-facing bay is protected from harsh southerly weather, although every allocation still depends on the boat's exact dimensions and handling requirements. Contact the team for availability and arrival instructions before approaching.
Berth holders have access to power, water, waste disposal and personal-care facilities, supported by 24-hour CCTV. Staff can assist with arrivals, departures and initial line-and-fender setup, and all-day street parking is available in surrounding streets. Refuelling, pump-out and shopping are across the water at Birkenhead Point rather than on the marina wharf. What stands out to us is the confidence that comes from having experienced shipwrights and vessel-management support immediately on site.
The traditional slip and cradle can handle suitable vessels up to 4.6 metres in beam and 30 tonnes. Services include antifouling, pressure washing, anodes, PropSpeed, propeller and shaft assessment, underwater repairs and insurance-related work, subject to material and propulsion exclusions. The workshop also undertakes wooden-boat restoration, composite work, maintenance and wider shipwright projects. Discuss scope, haul-out suitability, timing and estimates directly; workshop hours are published as weekdays rather than a round-the-clock trade service.
Our take is that Phoebe Street particularly suits owners who value personal technical care, harbour convenience and genuine waterfront character. Balmain's cafés, pubs, shops and public transport add to the appeal, while the main harbour is close at hand. Access from Phoebe Street includes historic sandstone stairs, so anyone with mobility concerns should arrange the alternative access offered by the marina. Plan the arrival, confirm berth or mooring fit and organise fuel separately; with that done, this is an unusually warm and capable inner-harbour home for a boat.
Services
Phoebe Street Marina offers 20 wet berths for boats up to 12 metres long and 4.5 metres in beam, plus 21 swing moorings for vessels up to 20 metres. Berths include power, water and waste access, while mooring users can request dinghy storage. Staff assist with arrivals, departures, lines and fender setup. Confirm availability, draft, dimensions and allocation before approaching.
Security includes 24-hour CCTV. Personal-care facilities and surrounding all-day street parking support owners ashore. Fuel, sewage pump-out and shopping are available across the water at Birkenhead Point, not directly from the marina, so check operating hours and plan the transfer. The street entrance uses historic sandstone stairs; contact staff in advance if alternative access is required.
Onsite shipwright and vessel-management services are a defining strength. The traditional slipway accepts suitable boats up to 4.6 metres beam and 30 tonnes for pressure washing, antifouling, anodes, PropSpeed, shaft and propeller assessment and underwater repairs. Steel, concrete and sterndrive vessels may be excluded from published slipway work. The workshop also handles wooden restoration and composite projects. Obtain a confirmed scope, suitability assessment, timing and quotation directly from the weekday team.
Ideal for
Sydney Harbour owners who want sheltered berthing or mooring access backed by skilled shipwrights, vessel management and a traditional working-marina atmosphere.

To keep in mind
Berth and mooring limits differ, so confirm length, beam, draft and availability before arrival. Fuel and pump-out are across the water at Birkenhead Point. The main street entrance includes sandstone stairs, but alternative access can be arranged with the marina.
