About Port of Eden (Snug Cove)

Snug Cove is the working maritime heart of Eden, set inside the broad natural shelter of Twofold Bay near Australia's south-eastern corner. Fishing vessels, port craft, cruise operations and visiting boats share a compact waterfront backed by the town and the forested Sapphire Coast. We think its greatest strength is strategic: for coastal crews moving between New South Wales, Bass Strait and Tasmania, Eden offers valuable refuge and a concentration of marine skills in a naturally protected bay.

This is not currently a conventional recreational marina with a published inventory of visitor pens. The cove contains commercial wharves, jetties, moorings, boat ramps and working areas, each with its own purpose, limits and access controls. Visiting skippers must speak with the responsible authority or operator before using a berth. Provide overall length, beam, draft, displacement, insurance, arrival time and intended stay and follow any port, security or traffic direction given.

The existing precinct supports road-tanker diesel by prior arrangement, slipping, boat repair, engineering and chandlery needs through local providers. These services are valuable, but none should be assumed available without booking. The cruise wharf has power, potable-water and firefighting connections designed for managed operations. What stands out to us is the breadth of real maritime capability around a small cove, especially for crews needing practical help before continuing along a remote section of coast.

Transport for NSW has approvals for a future Snug Cove Maritime Precinct that could add up to 79 floating berths, on-water fuel, sewage pump-out and supporting services, subject to funding and delivery. Current stakeholder material makes clear that this is a proposal, not today's marina inventory. Until construction and commissioning are formally announced, visitors should rely only on operating facilities confirmed for their particular call. Showers, laundry, Wi-Fi and casual shore-power access are not generally verified.

Our take is that Eden best suits experienced passage crews and commercial or recreational boats willing to coordinate with a working port. Twofold Bay can offer meaningful shelter, but coastal headlands, sea state and active harbour traffic still deserve respect. Check the forecast, port notices and live berth permission, organise fuel or trades in advance and keep an alternative plan. Handled professionally, Snug Cove is one of the most useful and characterful stops on the far south coast.

Services

Snug Cove provides working-harbour access through commercial wharves, jetties, moorings and ramps rather than a standard recreational marina inventory. Each facility has its own role and controls. Contact the relevant port authority or operator with vessel dimensions, draft, displacement, insurance, arrival timing and purpose, and obtain explicit permission before approaching an apparently vacant berth.

Local capability includes diesel delivered by road tanker by arrangement, a slipway, boat repairs, engineering and chandlery services. The cruise wharf carries managed power and potable-water connections, but these are not general marina utilities. Book every fuel, haul-out and trade requirement independently and confirm access, contractor, security and payment arrangements before arrival.

A proposed future precinct could provide up to 79 floating berths, on-water fuel and sewage pump-out, but it is not current operating inventory. General visitor showers, laundry, Wi-Fi and berth-side power are not verified. Monitor project and port updates, current charts and notices. Commercial and cruise movements take priority, and changing weather around the far south coast makes a confirmed berth and fallback plan essential.

Ideal for

Experienced south-coast passage crews and working vessels seeking authorised harbour access, refuge and nearby fuel, slipping, engineering or repair support.

What we love

  • The natural shelter of broad Twofold Bay
  • A genuine far south coast working harbour
  • Slipway, repair, engineering and chandlery support
  • A strategic position for coastal passages
  • Eden's town services close to the waterfront

To keep in mind

There is no verified public recreational marina inventory, and each wharf or jetty has specific controls. Future floating berths and pump-out remain a proposal. Secure permission, fuel and trade bookings before arrival and plan around active port traffic and exposed coastal weather.
