About Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club
Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club brings a traditional club-marina experience to Williamstown's Nelson Place waterfront, looking across Hobsons Bay towards central Melbourne. The location combines a strong boating community with dining, events and one of Port Phillip's most interesting maritime neighbourhoods. We think the club's appeal is social as much as practical: it offers a place to keep the boat, meet fellow owners and remain connected to the life of the bay.
The marina has 80 berths for boats up to 18 metres, with permanent, casual and visitor accommodation. Water and shore power are available at every berth, while clubhouse toilets and showers support visiting crews. Permanent club berths are available only to members and follow an application, inspection and waiting-list process. Visitors and members of kindred clubs use a separate request form and must provide a current certificate of insurance.
The club participates in the Clean Marina Program, with environmental controls and security forming part of the marina operation. The berth committee assesses vessel seaworthiness and how limited space can be used effectively, so an application does not guarantee immediate allocation. What stands out to us is the transparent club process: suitability, membership and community responsibility matter alongside a boat's dimensions, helping preserve the character of a shared facility.
RVMYC describes marina and yard facilities, with access to a newer travel lift at adjacent Savage's Wharf. That lift should be booked with the responsible operator rather than treated as an unrestricted onsite service. A club fuel dock, sewage pump-out and full commercial boatyard are not verified, so organise fuel, waste handling and major technical work independently. Ask the club about gate access, clubhouse hours, visitor conduct and any contractor restrictions before arrival.
Our take is that RVMYC suits motor-yacht owners who value club life, Williamstown access and a serviced berth in northern Port Phillip. Hobsons Bay can be busy with ferries, commercial shipping, sailing and local traffic, and wind across the bay can make manoeuvring more demanding than the city setting suggests. Secure written visitor approval, study the berth approach and follow club directions. Once alongside, the combination of waterfront community and Melbourne proximity is difficult to beat.
Services
RVMYC operates 80 club-marina berths for vessels up to 18 metres, covering permanent, casual and visitor stays. Every berth has access to water and shore power, with toilets and showers in the clubhouse. Permanent applicants must be members, pay the application fee and pass a vessel inspection; allocation follows availability and the club's waiting-list process.
Visitors and members of kindred clubs can request a berth through the club's visitor form and must supply a current insurance certificate. Confirm overall length, beam, draft, electrical requirements, dates and arrival time. The Clean Marina programme, security procedures and clubhouse rules shape how the facility operates, so ask about gates, keys, guests and after-hours access.
The club notes access to a travel lift at adjacent Savage's Wharf, which requires separate confirmation with the responsible operator. Onsite fuel, sewage pump-out and a full commercial boatyard are not verified. Arrange those needs elsewhere and clarify contractor permissions before booking work. Check Hobsons Bay weather and commercial traffic and obtain an assigned berth and approach guidance before entering.

Motor-yacht owners and approved visitors who value club community, serviced berths and easy access to Williamstown and northern Port Phillip.
