About Shute Harbour Marina

Shute Harbour Marina is an approved private marina-resort proposal for Shute Bay, about 10 kilometres south-east of Airlie Beach and close to the Whitsunday Islands. The vision is ambitious: a substantial marina integrated with accommodation, hospitality and public waterfront spaces in one of Queensland's most dramatic boating settings. We think the location has undeniable long-term promise, but boaters need a clear distinction between the proposed development and the operating council terminal nearby.

Queensland's Coordinator-General lists the project as approved with conditions and describes a planned 395-berth marina, a 109-room hotel, commercial, retail and dining areas, managed resort accommodation and a retirement precinct. Those figures describe the approved project concept, not berths currently ready to book. The official project history shows a long approvals pathway, and no current primary source confirms that the private marina has opened to vessels. Expressions of interest should never be mistaken for a berth reservation.

If delivered in its approved form, the development would create an impressive private-boat gateway to Whitsunday Passage, with the scale to serve yachts and cruisers alongside a complete shore-side destination. Forested ranges, island anchorages and the Great Barrier Reef cruising region give the site exceptional natural appeal. What stands out to us is the potential to connect a large contemporary marina with an established departure harbour rather than creating a destination disconnected from local maritime life.

For services available now, use the separate Shute Harbour Marine Terminal listing and contact Whitsunday Regional Council. The operating terminal provides limited short-term berths, fuel, water and passenger facilities; these belong to the council facility and should not be presented as amenities of the proposed private marina. There are no verified operating private wet berths, catamaran pens, showers, laundry, boatyard, chandlery or pump-out under this marina project at present.

Our take is that Shute Harbour Marina is best followed as a future Whitsundays development rather than selected for a current cruise itinerary. Prospective buyers and boat owners should verify construction, approvals, berth sales and completion dates directly with the proponent and relevant authorities. Meanwhile, visiting skippers can still enjoy the harbour through the council terminal under its own booking rules. That accurate separation keeps expectations realistic while preserving the excitement of what this remarkable site may eventually become.

Services

Shute Harbour Marina is a proposed private marina-resort development, not a verified operating marina. The approved project concept includes 395 berths, a 109-room hotel, retail and dining areas, managed resort accommodation and other waterfront facilities. These are planned elements only. No current primary source confirms bookable private berths or a completed marina, so do not travel on the strength of an expression of interest or promotional plan.

Fuel, water, short-term berthing and passenger amenities currently available at Shute Harbour belong to the separate council-owned Shute Harbour Marine Terminal. They must not be attributed to this private development. Visiting vessels should contact the terminal directly, use its official booking process and follow its published arrival, security, fuel and payment rules.

Private marina showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, pump-out, security, boatyard, lifting, chandlery and liveaboard arrangements are not verified as operational. Prospective berth purchasers should ask the proponent for current construction status, binding terms, approvals, delivery milestones and refund protections, and independently confirm material claims with the relevant authority. For an immediate Whitsundays visit, plan around established operating facilities instead.

Ideal for

Boaters and investors tracking a potentially major future Whitsundays marina-resort, rather than crews needing an operating berth for a current itinerary.

What we love

  • An exceptional position beside Whitsunday Passage
  • An approved concept for 395 future berths
  • A vision combining marina and waterfront hospitality
  • Close proximity to the Whitsunday Islands
  • Potential for a substantial private boating hub

To keep in mind

This is an approved development proposal, not a verified operating private marina. Do not attribute the neighbouring council terminal's facilities to it. Confirm construction, berth availability and contractual milestones independently before making travel or purchase decisions.
