About St Kilda Marina
St Kilda Marina is one of Melbourne's most accessible boating bases, occupying a large foreshore site on Port Phillip Bay only about six kilometres from the CBD. Since 1969 it has combined wet berthing, dry storage, launching, fuel and marine businesses in one metropolitan precinct. We think its great advantage is immediacy: an owner can reach the boat from the city, prepare within a secure site and be out on the bay without turning every outing into a major expedition.
The marina has 165 wet berths for vessels from 6.7 to 22.8 metres, with 24-hour private security access, secure parking and walk-on access. Water and shore power are available around the clock and included in berthing fees. Visitor stays from a few hours to several weeks may be accommodated in vacant wet berths, subject to advance enquiry. Send overall length, beam, draft, insurance, dates and electrical needs so the office can identify a suitable position.
Dry options are unusually broad. Covered dry stack holds up to 123 boats from 5.2 to 6.4 metres, with forklift launch and retrieval seven days a week during operating hours. Twenty open hardstands suit boats from 6.4 to 8.2 metres, and the secure trailer park has 175 spaces for boats up to 9.1 metres. Jetski pontoon storage is also offered. What stands out to us is the ability to match different ownership styles within one established site.
The fuel dock near the marina entrance provides 24-hour high-flow diesel and unleaded through the Compac Pay Mobile app. A public boat ramp and 80-space trailer parking area also operate 24 hours, with entry payment at the boom gate. Concierge, brokerage and access to onsite shipwright, repair and detailing support add depth for members. Confirm the current process, charges and availability for every storage or staff-assisted service before arriving.
Our take is that St Kilda Marina suits busy Melbourne owners, trailer boats, jetskis and larger private vessels wanting a comprehensive city base. The current council lease runs to September 2028, and the City of Port Phillip is planning the site's next long-term chapter, so future works and access arrangements may evolve. Port Phillip weather and prevailing south-westerlies still deserve respect. Check the forecast, berth or launch status and payment apps in advance, then enjoy the rare convenience of boating from the heart of metropolitan Melbourne.

Ideal for
Melbourne owners, trailer boats, jetskis and larger private vessels wanting secure wet or dry storage, round-the-clock fuel and fast city access to Port Phillip Bay.
What we love
- One hundred and sixty-five secure wet berths
- Extensive dry-stack, hardstand and trailer storage
- Round-the-clock high-flow diesel and unleaded
- A 24-hour public ramp and trailer park
- Exceptional proximity to central Melbourne
To keep in mind
Dry-stack retrieval is staffed during set hours, fuel requires the payment app and visitor berths need approval. The council is planning the precinct's post-2028 future, so confirm any works or access changes and always account for Port Phillip weather.
